Fingal is a small town located in the north-east of Tasmania, on the Esk Highway location some 75 kilometres from Launceston. The Fingal valley features an environment unique for its scenery and colonial history with the major towns being Avoca, Fingal, Rossarden, Mathinna and St MMarys. The town has a number of historically significant buildings, particularly in the town’s main street, Talbot Street. The Holder Brothers Store dates from 1859 and nearby is the old Tasmania Hotel, constructed, in part, from the stones that were originally used to build the prison barracks in the 1840s. This is a great small free overnight camping area at Fingal, suitable for camping in motorhomes, campervans or caravans and also for tent-based camping. There are excellent toilets, showers, water (not drinking), a barbecue and shelter. There is a supermarket at Fingal, fuel and a few other services – there is no charge to stay overnight at this location, PETS are NOT PERMITTED. This is a small area that is mostly flat and well grassed but with minimal shade. This free RV stay Fingal is only a minute or 2 walk to the centre of Fingal where you can buy groceries at an IGA supermarket, get a counter meal, buy fuel, coffee and get takeaway food.
