Visitors to Latrobe on North West Tasmania close to Devonport and the Spirit of Tasmania Ferry Terminal in a fully self-contained vehicle (water, shower, toilet, cooking facilities) will find short-term parking at the Latrobe Council Stop, located centrally in Cotton Street, behind an IGA Supermarket and on an open, gravel and grassed area. Sites are $10 per vehicle per night and includes access to a dump point and potable water. Self contained RVs can stay for 2 nights in any consecutive 14 day period. A permit must be obtained and clearly displayed on the vehicle – the area is patrolled by local council officials. There is no tent based camping or camping in campervans, camper trailers, rooftop tents or cars allowed at this location. This overnight RV friendly stay at Latrobe in close to the Mersey Community Hospital and a range of local facilities including hotels, takeaway food, cafes, restaurants, supermarkets, chemists and other specialty stores. Latrobe is a great base to explore the central and north-west coast of Tasmania, including the towns of Port Sorell, Devonport, Ulverstone, Penguin, Burnie, Wynyard and Smithton. This is a great spot in a lovely small Tasmanian town with lots of attractions. The Warrawee Forest Reserve is located along the banks of the Mersey River, with many of these areas having picnic and barbeque facilities you can enjoy lunch or dinner. The Latrobe Landcare Group conduct platypus tours in this area; early morning or at dusk is the best time to catch a glimpse of these creatures in their natural habitat.
